The automotive industry relies on the use air conditioning systems. These refrigeration systems have mainly used two types of refrigerant. Vehicle manufacturers up until 1994 used R-12 (CFC-12), better known by the popular brand name ‘Freon’. Vehicles, as of 1995, only use R134a (HFC-134a) refrigerant due to its 0 ozone depletion rating and most systems originally designed to operate with CFC-12 can be retrofitted to operate with R134a.
