The R1234yf is a hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant designed to meet the EU MAC directive 2006/40/EC which imposes that all new car platforms for sale in the European Union use refrigerants in the AC system with a GWP lower than 150. With its ODP of 0 and GWP of 4, greenhouse gasses emissions are substantially reduced as well as the carbon footprint compared to the very common and widely used R134a. It provides excellent cooling, similar thermodynamic properties, energy efficiency and capacity to the R134a while meeting global regulations.
The R1234yf was designed for new systems and therefore usage or retrofitting existing R134a systems is not recommended.
