The R448a refrigerant is a zeotropic blend, a mixture of R32, R125 and R134a HFCs with HFO (hydrofluoroolefin) components R1234yf and 1234ze. Similar to the R449A it boasts 68% lower global warming potential and 5 to 10% higher energy efficiency compared to the R404A while ensuring the equivalent performance of the R22 in low and medium temperature applications.
Designed to replace the R404a, R507 and R22 refrigerants, the R448a facilitates quick, cost-efficient adoption as a result of similar operating pressures as HFCs, using the same lubricant (POE) and being compatible with all system components. It has the same temperature glide as the R449A, provides better capacity and unlike the R407f and R407a it does not require liquid injection in low temperatures.
